The public healthcare system of Catalonia (2nd most populated region in Spain) has been organised according to the principles of: a system with a desire for universal assistance, a comprehensive approach to health from public health to primary and community care, hospital care, social health care, mental health care and also care from the social sphere; and equity and overcoming territorial or social inequalities in the provision of health services.

Subsequently, 14 additional centers from the Integrated Public Use Health System of Catalonia (SISCAT) joined the initiative. These centers have been progressively integrated to ensure territorial coverage across the four provinces of Catalonia: Barcelona (12 centers), Girona (2), Tarragona (2), and Lleida (1).
